This is a joke. Even PTCL is not sure on its success. Look like author is is on payroll of PTCL

Sara Hafeez on:Sat Aug 28, 2010
@ Arshad: You are mistaken the author is not on a payroll of PTCL. IPTV surely has a bright future in Pakistan and that is evident from the fact that PTA is taking enormous amount of interest in it.

I shall say that the success of such services is proportional to the ease of broadband access in daily lives.

Promotion of IP in this application will definitely lead Pakistan in IP success again.

Absar Taqvi on:Sun Aug 29, 2010
@ Haris. But do you think PTCL, in current circumstances, can lead this domain?

Haris Majeed on:Sun Aug 29, 2010
@Absar: PTCL has fiber as all, she has to make herself lead this domain. ... :) Surely she can ! Its just a matter of time to handle the circumstances. :)

Absar Taqvi on:Mon Aug 30, 2010
@ Haris. Many thanks for the response. PTCL is a giant brother; sad part is, it doesn't know this itself=)

Various forms of IP TV (e.g. YouTube) have been widely available for quite some time now so I'm not sure what's new or revolutionary about this service, or what role PTCL or other (wireline/wireless) operators may have in this other than a dumb pipe. I think it'll all be about controling/copyrighting the compelling content.

The Success of IPTV and other services like DSL or QuadPlay(Including IPTV , DSL, Voice and Remote Video Surveillance) ... all depends on their Access Network (LOCAL LOOP Network)....Until they get some serious Wireless Solution...!!!

Absar Taqvi on:Mon Sep 06, 2010
I quite agree with you here. The role which organizations like PTCL or PTA can play might be regulate the content, as in, promoting the need to develop local data and projecting Pakistan market is a data-replete market...because it is.

Absar Taqvi on:Mon Sep 06, 2010
@ Bashir. Many thanks for your comment. So keeping the technicalities in view, what do you think how IPTV will come along?

Bashir Ahmed Zeeshan on:Mon Sep 06, 2010
Well PTCL could move to some Wireless technologies like WiMAX supported Ethernet bridges( Some Test sites are implemented already) or could use some fibre based solutions like FTTx .... rather to spend huge money and resources to correct their Access network....

IPTV in Pakistan has a long way to go. Pakistan's TV market is dominated mainly by the cable operators and also consumer is not aware of real power and reveloution IPTV can bring in his life. IPTV is interactive, personalized TV which will shift the way consumer watch TV today. Perople can chat on TV while watching Live TV, they can see caller ID on TV screen, and also they can have video conferencing with their friends and family on big TV screen. With interactive and targeted advertising, consumer can save lot of time and money and targeted advertising can bring lot of revenue for operators as well. Imagine you are wathcing VOD and before starting the video of your choice on your conveinet time, you like to eat pizza. All you need to do is to select the pizaa advertising from your remote controle on the EPG of your IPTV and place a order by selecting size, time and price of the pizaa and pizza will be delivered to you home on eaxct time. From interactive services, you can vote on live channels. In a reality show like "Bigg Boss", you can even talk to the host and also give your vote to your favourite candidate. Interactive and network games are also the part of this service. IPTV also brings the concept of multi-screen. You can watch your favourite content on anywhere, anytime and on any terminal basis. You can watch your favourite movie on TV, Smart phone, PC and on tablet with same vieweing experience. HDTV is a new experience of watching TV. With PVR functionality, you can even pause, rewind your favourite programme. You can even download your live programme for later consumption of your conveient time. Imagine you are watching Live Cricket world cup on TV and your mother wants to watch her favoruite bushra ansari TV drama or your dad wants to watch Geo news or capital talk at the same time. With the power of Place-Shift, you can shift your live cricket match to your PC or Laptop and let TV be free for others. Now you need to go out for some urgent meeting and only last 5 overs left, you can transfer your live match from your Laptop to you smart phone and you can watch rest of the match on your way to office or dinner :) These are just few servcies from IPTV. With Hybrid IPTV, you can even include OTT (Internet TV) to your STB to watch youtube or use facebook on your TV Screen, sending message to yuour friends and wathcing IPTV at the same time. As i said earlier, Pakistan has a long way to go. In 2011, China will surpass France and will become the number one in IPTV subscriber's base. Even in china IPTV is not so much mature technology. IPTV is the technology of future which will totally chnage the way we use to watch TV. IPTV has a big value chain. From content providers, to network providers, from wholesalers to studios, service providers and even consumers can get the share in terms of business. Let's hope that IPTV in pakistan will flourish.
